Dear Atlanta Music Club Members:
I greet you as your newly elected president, and on behalf of the Atlanta Music Club Board of Directors. On the advent of this exciting holiday of giving and gratitude for so many blessings, it is particularly important to express gratitude and pride in the fact that after more than 108 years, the Atlanta Music Club continues to thrive and do great things within the Atlanta community and beyond. As an educator, I particularly take pride in the fact that in addition to its legacy of presenting fine musical events, the AMC continues to contribute significantly to the encouragement and development of young performers through its vigorous competitive scholarship programs.
Over the past several months, many invigorating and motivating events have taken place, including the appointment of several new board members and committee chairs. These include new Membership Chairs, Yenni Mahecha, an Atlanta business entrepreneur, and Dr. Vicente Della Tonia, Professor and Coordinator of Piano Performance at Georgia State University. Other appointments include the Chair of Cultural Arts and Activities, Cellist, Dr. Jesus Castro Balbi of the Kennesaw State University Music faculty; Chair of Programs, Dr. Gloria Lin, a development associate in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech; Lana McSwain, Corresponding Secretary, Atlanta Braves Executive Assistant, and two new Members At Large, Indra Thomas, internationally acclaimed soprano, and Maestro Timothy Verville, Conductor of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra. The refreshing energy that these new Board members and appointees bring, along with the continued dedication of long-standing Board members, promise a bright path for the Atlanta Music Club that will resonate through its future work for decades to come. Please look forward to future announcements of some outstanding musical events and presentations from stellar young scholarship competitors. I hope that some of you have made arrangements to attend the AMC Annual Holiday Luncheon at the Ansley Golf Club at 11:30 AM on December 18.
I strongly encourage each of you to roll up your sleeves, invite new members, and dig even deeper into becoming more directly engaged in the operational success of this great organization. I have enjoyed interacting with some of you, but I look forward to personally greeting others in the coming months. Please have a wonderful, happy and productive holiday season!
